How It Works

The following provides the basic steps in using the LibraryWorld service. You can use all the features of the service during the trial period without ever paying or providing any financial information.

Contact Sales

Create a User Account

There is never a charge for creating accounts. User accounts can be used to create libraries or to join libraries created by others.

Create or Join a Library

Once you have created a user account you can create a Standard library. Standard libraries can handle up to 50,000 catalog records. By default the library is created as a 'Trial' and is available for use for up to 30 days.

You may also join a library that has been created by another user. To join a library, the owner of the library has to grant your username permissions in the libraries settings. After that has been done, you can use the 'Join Library' link to access the library.

Entering Catalog Records

There are three ways to enter catalog records into your library. You can use the built in Z39.50 client to pull records directly from major library resources on the Web. Or, you can import standard 'MARC' records. Last, you can 'hand-enter' full catalog and holding records. Book jacket images will often automatically appear for your titles. A book jacket image sharing feature is built into the service.

One or more documents, jpeg or pdf formatted, can be attached to each catalog record creating a full digital library system. Thumbnail images are automaticaly created for the files, one of which may be used as the book jacket image.

Web links (URLs) can also be added to link catalog records to any source on the Internet.

Entering Patron Records

Patron records can also be hand entered or imported using standard TEXT files. A patron image may also be attached to a patron record and appears during circulation.

Trying Out Circulation

We recommend entering a few catalog and patron records and trying the circulation system as quickly as possible. Bar code scanners can be used. The service allows you to print barcode labels for both patrons and holdings, or, you may wish to purchase barcode labels through LibraryWorld or a third party. Spine and jacket-pocket labels can also be printed from the application.

Inventory and Serials

LibraryWorld is more than a catalog and circulation system, but a fully integrated online library service which also includes a robust inventory control and serials tracking system.

Settings and Reports

There are many options you can set for your library to control circulation policies, calendar, and patron access display. The Settings link allows you to change these options. A wide range of standard and customized reports are available through the Reports link.

Patron Access

There are several different ways patrons can have access to the library collection. A complete Online Patron Access Catalog (OPAC) Program allows a customized user interface, book jacket images and even the ability to request holds on items. And yes, we even have a free iPhone App available at the Apple AppStore and a free Android App available at the Google Android Market.

Ordering Library Supplies

Don't forget the library supplies. Bar codes, barcode readers, book spine labels are all highly recommended in building and automating a collection. Supplies
